Summer Ombré Lip

As I enjoy the lazy summer days I thought I would try out an ombré lip for the first time. I only own a nude, and clear lip liner so I decided to use lipsticks to create the look.

NOTE: if you want to wear this lip out, or for a long period of time I recommend using lip liners instead of lipstick.

What I used:

Step One:

Conceal your lips

one Step Two:

Carefully outline your lips with the darker lip liner/lipstick (Quince by Bite). It’s okay to mess up a little because your can always conceal it when you’re done

two Step Three:

Okay, I know it seems like I skipped something but this look is super easy. You’re then going to take the lighter lip liner/lipstick (Elusive by Revlon) and fill in the center part of your lips. After rub your lips together for a blended look. Working with lip liners you may have to use a lip brush to blend the colours together.

And you’re all done! Super quick and super easy to achieve 😀

Pop of Liner

Hello beautiful viewers! I am finally giving you a new makeup tutorial. I know the past few weeks have been a fashion overload (or maybe you enjoyed it?) but I am back home now and can get back to experimenting with makeup.

The Tutorial:

eye tutorial I took a white cream eye liner and winged it out. Then I applied a bright shimmery blue over-top to cover all the white. Finally I added a black liner for more of a wearable look.

Foundation Review

REVIEW TIME on Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation. Well that name is a mouthful.
I bought this foundation on an impulse (which I never recommend because 90% I always end up hating it/the product breaks me out)

I bought the lightest shade available (yeah for being pale!) and it matched my skin pretty well

I wasn’t too sure about the whole mousse thing because last time I bought a mousse product it felt too heavy/thick and broke my skin out! But I was in a hurry and just bought without really thinking.

The middle is the product is the foundation. I always wear the Benefit porefessional under my foundation and the brush I use to apply the foundation is the Real Techniques buffing brush. After applying my primer I apply the foundation and blend….and blend….and blend. The foundation does blend pretty easily the issue is that it catches all the imperfections so it looks kind of cakey….but it goes away if you blend!
I would not wear this foundation if I was in a hurry because it takes so long for it to blend.

This is what it looks like after I apply it, no concealer or anything.
As you can see it does take away all redness and if you are looking straight on my acne looks minimal, but still visible.

The foundation is heavier than I would like, but does a pretty good job.

Here is what it looks like after a few hours, with no touch ups

As you can see some acne spots became more visible, but overall it looks pretty similar!
My face did stay pretty matte as well. I did set my T Zone area with a powder though.
I do have oily skin, and wouldn’t recommend for people with dry skin because it’ll probably make your dry patches more noticeable.

Overall I would recommend this product.

Spring Trend #1

Spring has finally arrived!!
To welcome it I’ve gathered a few trends that you can try out this spring season.

Trend: White

I’m not a huge fan of the white eyeliner or the white eye shadow, so I’m trying out this trend by lining my waterline and highlighting my inner corner (more dramatic than usual) then blending it out to my lid.
Make sure to use a waterproof liner, I used Rimmel Scandal eyes Eye Shadow Stick.

The next way I incorporate this trend is with my nails!

Having white nails is a perfect way for people to show off this trend if you aren’t that keen on rocking white shadow.

Make sure to follow all my social media to see when I post my next Spring trend!!!

My Daily Night Skincare

First I use Neutrogena All-in-One Makeup Removing Cleansing Lotion to remove all my makeup.

Then I’ll splash my face with water to remove the extra lotion and use The Body Shop scrubby thingy to exfoliate my face with the Neutrogena Natural Acne Cream Cleanser.

Finally after washing all that off I brush my teeth. Then I apply Dermalogica Overnight Clearing Gel on my breakouts.

I would recommend ALL these products, I’ve been using them for the past few months and love them.

How to Press Pigments

Over the holidays I bought a MAC pigment pack. It included:
– Pink Glitter
– Grey Glitter
– Vanilla
– Kitschmas
– Push The Edge
I knew I wouldn’t use pigments a lot so I decided why not press them so I can use them more often!
Here’s how I press pigments!

What you need:
– Rubbing Alcohol Compound
– empty pans
– magnets (for the empty pans)
– a quarter
– makeup remover wipes
– something to mix the pigments and alcohol
– eye dropper (mine is from the medicine you get when you are a child)

First you cut the magnets and put them on the back of the pan so you can put them in a palette

Place paper towel underneath everything for an easy clean up. Then clean the pan with the alcohol and pick up some alcohol with your eye dropper tool thingy.

Put the pigment into the pan, enough that it will cover most of the bottom of the pan.
Then add the alcohol until all the pigment is absorbed from the alcohol.

Mix till it’s like a paint substance and leave it off to the side to dry for 15-20 mins.

Once the pigment is dry, take the quarter and place it in a tissue. Wrap the tail of the tissue around itself so the side is smooth.

Press it down, and add more pigment if there is still more room in the pan.
Continue these steps until you have your desired amount and leave it to dry for 24 hours!

Liebster Award

I come baring the most exciting news! I have been honoured with the Liebster Award!!!!!! This is actually so amazing and I feel so thankful to Emma (serenejellybean) who awarded this to me!

I didn’t actually know what this award was, but I have seen on a few other beauty blogs. Emma explained this award perfectly:

“The Liebster Award was created by someone who lives in Germany to honor and recognize newer and smaller bloggers. So, this lovely “gift” is passed around from blog to blog. Whoever gives you the award gives you a series of questions to answer, and you in turn must come up with questions and tag your favorite small bloggers (less than 200 followers approx.)”

Alright so here are the questions I have to answer:

What are your favorite colors to wear in the spring?

I like to wear colours that make my red hair pop, so like mint greens and pinks. I definitely take this time to try out new shades of colours because during the winter I tend to wear a very neutral pallet.

Would you rather buy a pair of shoes or a purse? Why?

Um do I have to? This actually took me like 10 minutes to think about haha. I guess if I had to chose I would maybe buy a purse. Because shoes are pretty annoying to shop for because I have size 10 to 11 and wide feet, so finding shoes that fit are unlikely.

What is your favorite social media tool and how to do use it for blogging?

Instagram. Hands done. I actually just got it for my blog, so make sure to follow me!!! (@beautybycatherine)

What makeup item can you not leave the house without?

Mascara. I think I look like a guy without mascara, why? I have no idea, I just feel like I do.

Who was the first beauty guru you watched/read?

I started to watch YouTube gurus in the summer of grade 9. Soooo it’s been a long time. But I think it’s a tie between two gurus who I first started watching, MeghanRosette and MichellePhan

Coffee or tea? Why?

Tea. I am such a tea addict. When I drink coffee it’s actually more like sugar with coffee, so I prefer tea or fancy Starbucks lattes.

When going on trips, do you like to pack as little as possible, or practically your whole makeup collection just in case?

Depends where I’m going, but for most trips I pack the essentials. Mascara, BB cream, concealer, a few eyeshadows, face primer, and eyebrow tools.

What celebrity’s style inspires you the most?

Actually I don’t really look at celebrities for inspiration. Though I really liked Miley Cyrus’ fashion when she had that long bob, right before she cut it all off.

Do you have a favorite makeup brand? If so, why are they your favorite?

I have different favourite brands for different parts of my face haha. So for eye products I love Urban Decay because their eyeshadows are so pigmented! and lovely.

Why did you start blogging?

I like I had said previously  I’ve been watching beauty gurus for a LONG time, and I do have a big interest in makeup. I wanted to share my tips and reviews and other things with other people who have the same interest as me 🙂

I hope that you all enjoyed getting to know me a little bit better!

Here are the lovelies who I’m passing the award to (not sure if they have 200 followers or less, so I’m basing it off of the twitter followers):

  4. What do you do on a rainy day?
  5. Foundation? BB cream? Or tinted moisturiser?
  6. Who is your favourite Beauty blogger or YouTuber?
  7. What is the one thing you can’t leave your house without?
  8. Where is your dream city to live in?
  9. Favourite makeup brand? Why?
  10. If you won $1,000 what would you do with it?
