Hello my beauties
Lately I haven’t been sleeping the best and it has gotten to a point where it’s affecting my everyday things (i.e. class, studying, etc.) So I decided to research a few tips for getting better sleep and of course wanted to share them with you guys.
*Little disclaimer: try different techniques for you, what may work for me doesn’t mean it’ll work for you, but I tried to get the most general tips possible*
1.) SLEEP REGULARLY
Try your best to go to sleep at the same time every night and wake up at the same time. This will allow you to get synced with your body’s natural sleep cycle, allowing you to feel awake, refreshed, and energized for the day to come.
2.) SLEEP IN THE DARK
This tip helped me A LOT, and I noticed a difference after one night. You want to go to sleep in complete darkness, to allow your natural hormone (melatonin) to do it’s magic. Melatonin controls your sleep cycle, and basically allows you for a better sleep.
Tips for sleeping in darkness:
– close your curtains, or get really thick curtains to block out any street lights, or car lights that drive by
– sleep with an eye mask. This is a quick solution, it’s cheap and you don’t have to change anything else in your room
– turn off all lights in your room (i.e. cell phone light, computer lights, night light etc.)
3.) RELAX BEFORE BEDTIME
You shouldn’t be doing anything that’ll raise your heartbeat right before you go to bed. Change your bedtime routine to something relaxing. This is probably going to be harder than you think.
Tips for relaxing:
– mediation, or deep breathing
– read a book
– listen to spa music
4.) STOP SNACKING BEFORE BED
Try to avoid big meals for dinner, or if you do have big meals try to have them earlier. If you avoid eating 3 hours before bed time your body will be able to digest everything properly while you sleep, and when you wake up you have a large breakfast (which you are supposed to have) If you do get hungry, have a fruit or something light.
I’ve noticed the days when I do a workout or some exercise I have a tendency to fall asleep quicker and it’s a much better sleep. I honestly don’t know what it is but try to exercise or do something active everyday to wear out your body. Trust me, this will help a lot.
